Free Flash Chart Tool–FusionCharts

May 3rd, 2009 admin No comments

FusionCharts provides lots of  charts with multi-code method.

URL: http://www.fusioncharts.com/

FusionCharts’ usage is very simple. The distribution package has a good example for each type of chart, and you can draw professional chart within 3 minutes.

It has a free version and a commercial version. Free version is powerful enough to meet most needs.

This is free version URL: http://www.fusioncharts.com/free/

Free version document URL: http://www.fusioncharts.com/free/docs/

Also, they have another tool, PowerCharts. I don’t test and code with this product. From the document, it seems more powerful than the free FusionCharts.

I use PHP code to select data from MySQL, and generate XML for FusionCharts.

More charts can be shown in a single webpage. In your PHP codes, just do as following,

<?php

echo yourchart1

>

<?php

echo yourchart2

>

Notes: table or DIV can be used for layout.

Grep tool under Microsoft Windows

January 23rd, 2009 admin No comments

Why Microsoft Windows hasn’t the function like “grep”? When analysing application logs, the question will  always be asked.

Fortunately, we can find some tools, such as AstroGrep(opensource freeware), which can do same thing under Windows just like Unix or Linux.

The following content is copied from: http://astrogrep.sourceforge.net

“AstroGrep is a Microsoft Windows grep utility. Grep is a UNIX command-line program which searches within files for keywords. AstroGrep supports regular expressions, versatile printing options, stores most recently used paths and has a “context” feature which is very nice for looking at source code.”

AstroGrep includes the following features

- Regular expressions
- Concurrent multiple file types
- Recursive directory searching
- A “context” feature that selects the lines above and below your search expression
- Most Recently Used list for search paths
- Somewhat versatile printing options
- Double click to open file with editor of your choice
- Store Most Recently Used file names and search expressions
- Match Whole Word Only
- Syntax highlighing
- Free of charge and Open Source

My solution of Firefox

January 15th, 2009 admin No comments

1. Using Foxmarks to synchronize bookmark between laptop and desktop PC.

2. Using Zotero to record interesting content when browsing.

3. Zotero home directory is backuped by Dropbox, so it can be restored/downloaded in different computer.

4. Using FEBE to backup addons and restore in other PCs

5. Using sync tools(lots of) to synchronize user directory of Firefox/Thunderbird from laptop to U-disk, for password, bookmark, and configuration protection.

6. Set cache 50MB.

7. Using Chromifox theme to replase colorfultabs addon which uses an ugly backupgroud picture in tabs after every upgrading.

Addons of my Firefox V3.0.5

January 15th, 2009 admin No comments

This post just records addons used in my Firefox V3.0.5

1. Alexa Sparky. For this website’s Alexa. (Dec. 6, 2008 was 5m, today is 1.5m)

2. All-in-One Sidebar. testing, maybe disable someday, installed it for study source code beside the webpage.

3. Firefox Universal Uploader. Upload images to my Picasa, re-enabled serveral days ago.

4. FEBE. Backup Addons

5. Foxmarks. The main reason I like Firefox is this addon.

6. Google Gears. Accelerate this website. maybe disable someday.

7. IE Tab. For Netbank, not feel well every time using it. IE is a disgusted word in my dictionary.

8. Jave Quick Starter. not sure. just enable it.

9. Zotero. Record some webpages and add tags and rename titles. I like it just as Foxmarks.

GMail Drive shell extension, using GMail to backup your data

January 14th, 2009 admin No comments

If you want to use up all your Gmail mailbox as online backup drive, you should try this, GMail Drive shell extension.

Gmail provides 7GB+ mailbox, but we use little of it for email. It’s a good idea that we can store something in it with convinence tool,  that’s why GMail Drive shell extension released. It sends email to your Gmail account with special excutable program, but the operation is the same as network drive, just like your Mozy Drive. No email client, no web login, no upload, just copy and paste files you want to backup, nothing else to do.  Cool ?

Refer: http://www.viksoe.dk/code/gmail.htm

The following content is copied from above URL.

GMail Drive is a Shell Namespace Extension that creates a virtual filesystem around your Google Mail account, allowing you to use Gmail as a storage medium.

GMail Drive creates a virtual filesystem on top of your Google Gmail account and enables you to save and retrieve files stored on your Gmail account directly from inside Windows Explorer. GMail Drive literally adds a new drive to your computer under the My Computer folder, where you can create new folders, copy and drag’n'drop files to.

Ever since Google started to offer users a Gmail e-mail account, which includes storage space of 6000 megabytes, you have had plenty of storage space but not a lot to fill it up with. With GMail Drive you can easily copy files to your Google Mail Account and retrieve them again.
When you create a new file using GMail Drive, it generates an e-mail and posts it to your account. The e-mail appears in your normal Inbox folder, and the file is attached as an e-mail attachment. GMail Drive periodically checks your mail account (using the Gmail search function) to see if new files have arrived and to rebuild the directory structures. But basically GMail Drive acts as any other hard-drive installed on your computer.
You can copy files to and from the GMail Drive folder simply by using drag’n'drop like you’re used to with the normal Explorer folders.

Because the Gmail files will clutter up your Inbox folder, you may wish to create a filter in Gmail to automatically move the files (prefixed with the GMAILFS letters in the subject) to your archived mail folder.

Please note that GMail Drive is still an experimental tool. There’s still a number of limitations of the file-system (such as total filename size must be less than 65 characters). Since the tool hooks up with the free Gmail Service provided by Google, changes in the Gmail system may break the tool’s ability to function. I cannot guarantee that files stored in this manner will be accessible in the future.

Top 10 Firefox Extensions to Improve your Productivity

January 14th, 2009 admin No comments

20070306-firefox.jpgRefer: http://www.lifehack.org/a…..ity.html

IT1999: The following content is copied from above URL, not represent my opinion. I use some other plugins and addons.

Firefox is the browser of dreams for many people (myself included). One of the great perks of Firefox is that there are tons of extensions that enhance the functionality of the browser. With over 1500 extensions in existence, there are many that can be used to improve your productivity. The following is my take on the top 10 extensions that will keep you focused, reduce distractions, streamline your daily work flow, and improve your productivity.

1. Customize Google
20070306-custgoog.jpg
Customize Google is a very robust extension that lets you customize many features of the services provided by Google. Customize Google lets you block advertisements on pretty much any Google page (including Gmail). It remaps Google Images search results to point directly at the images (no longer will you need to click through the originating site). Customize Google lets you add links from other search engines directly into your search results. It can also block Google click tracking and allows you to connect to Google Calendar and Gmail securely (https). Give it a try, you won’t be sorry.

Internet Browser Wars

January 9th, 2009 admin 1 comment

Browser I have used in turn,

Internet Explorer 4/5/6–>NetScape 4/5–> Mozilla–>Firefox2/3(Now)

Because of Java and web applications, or cloud calculation, browser will become platform and OS will be less important.

So,it’s true that there is a war between Google and Microsoft.

But Google should beat Firefox first before IE, can he?
